Whether this is your family's first experience with therapy or you are looking for a new therapy provider, you may have a few questions. If your question is not answered here, please contact our pediatric therapy specialists.

What will happen in our first session?

During your first therapy session, your therapist will be evaluating your child to determine your child's present level of performance. As part of this session, your therapist will be asking you questions about your child's medical history and developmental history. In addition, your therapist will interview you to assist in identifying your child's needs, your concerns within the context of your daily routines and activities. Please remember to bring any items with you that will help this process (i.e. medical reports, school reports, baby books).

Can I stay in the room during therapy?

We want families to be active participants in the therapy session. There may be occasions when your child's performance is improved when you are not in the room. In that case, there are observation windows available and other modifications to assure that you are aware of the activities and interventions that are being performed. During times when you are not present during the therapy session, your therapist will spend time with you demonstrating activities to be carried out throughout your daily routines and activities.

What if I cannot come into the Milestones Therapy office?

The Milestones Therapy Office is a child friendly environment where kids can play and have fun during their therapy session. However, some children perform better in other settings. Milestones Therapy services may be provided in many settings including the home, child care centers and other community settings. You and your therapist will discuss options for the place of service during the initial intake session.

I have other children, too. Can I bring them with me?

Siblings are a part of your child's life and we would love to incorporate them as much as possible in the therapy session; however, this can be distracting for your child that is receiving therapy. Our outpatient clinic has a child friendly waiting area for the sibling to play in; however, they must be accompanied at all times by an adult.

What if our insurance does not cover therapy?

Most insurance companies cover therapy costs that are considered medically necessary. There may be restrictions on the number of therapy sessions covered per year. Please check with your insurance company to determine your coverage. If you have difficulty accessing this information, please ask your therapist to assist you. If your insurance company does not cover therapy services, please contact your therapist to determine arrangements for private pay.

What ages of children do you serve?

Milestones therapists specialize in providing services to those from birth through age 21. Persons over the age of 21 years of age may also benefit from our services. Please contact us to determine if we can meet your needs.
